Hi there!I’m Jade, mama to two beautiful (spirited) little girls, ocean dweller, burger enthusiast, photographer and writer. If I’m not behind a camera, you can usually find me sandy-footed sipping long blacks, devouring baked goods, pushing my kids onto waves, at the skatepark (not by choice) or embroidering flowers onto up-cycled clothing (definitely my choice). I grew up on the Gold Coast, or Goldie as it will always be known in my head, and I’m at my absolute happiest with my toes in the ocean.
I’ve been writing about and photographing food for The Weekend Edition Gold Coast for the past 8 years (wow, time flies!). As wonderful as food is, having a family of my own changed my perspective on everything. I finally understood the expression ‘the days are long, but the years are short’. It feels like just yesterday I had tiny babies, but now they’re in school and giving me sass! To quote the immortal words of Miley, it hit me like a wrecking ball. What I wouldn’t give to go back and squeeze their little chubby toddler legs and blow raspberries on their baby bellies. Time truly is the greatest thief.
That’s the thing with photos... It’s not just about pretty smiles for a wall or feed; it’s a portal back in time. A way to remember and preserve these priceless moments that fade into memories before you’ve even realised their significance. That was my motivation to broaden my skillset to become a lifestyle family photographer.
I describe my style of photography as storytelling, because if there’s one thing I learnt from my days in journalism it’s that everything and everyone has a story – you just have to ask the right questions. I strive to capture not just the smiles but the stories behind them – your family’s story. The real, candid moments of joy, laughter and usually a little bit of chaos. I will offer some gentle guidance throughout the session, but mostly, I’m pretty happy to just hang back and capture your family, just as they are. For me, that’s where the magic unfolds. I want to create an experience that is not only fun but also meaningful, delivering photographs that you, your children and their children will cherish for years to come.
In the end, it's not just a pretty picture; it's about how that picture makes you feel.
