A new baby brings a kind of joy that you didn’t even dream was possible. The tiniest humans that take up the biggest part of your heart, turn your world upside down, inside out and back-to-front, and yet, once they’re here, you can’t even imagine your life without them in it. Nor do you want to. There really is nothing quite like it.

Whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned pro, those first few weeks and months can be a total blur as you adjust to the new rhythm of parenthood. My newborn sessions are about embracing a slower pace and capturing the cuddles, the tiny fingers and the connections, as authentically as possible. I won’t try to lull baby to sleep so we can run through a shot list of poses with ten different outfit changes. Instead, we can enjoy snuggles on the couch, baby bath time, feeding or capturing all of those tiny details that change in the blink of an eye.

Your home doesn’t have to be perfect, far from it. But it will always be the place you brought your baby home to, so that in itself will hold a special place in your heart. Don’t worry if there’s mess or last night’s dishes in the sink, I’m a mum too. I remember it well, and truthfully, they grow so fast that all I can say is the dishes and laundry can wait. Just soak in every minute of your baby, they’ll be starting school in no time at all.
